The Single-A Report
It was noted in the first Single-A report that the offense was lagging behind the pitching in terms of development and performance. But who are the Single-A batters that are bucking the tide?
Daron Plummer checks in with a .316/.389/.519 for the Bethesda Hornets. But, how seriously can you take a 32 year old at this level? Of
course, HE thinks S.D. should move him up the ladder. For now, he's a Hornet, and a mad one at
that.
21 year old Jeremy White of New Orleans is the second leading hitter for average in Single A as he checks in with .315/.442/.468. He's clobbered 8 home runs and has a 37/56 BB/K ratio. Definitely a prospect. Presently he has 1 AB in AAA and is batting 1.000.
For Power, its Clark Ladner of the Dearborn Pioneers. Hey, that's my guy!! The 19 year old from North Tonawanda (New York) bats left and plays first base. He's gone yard 16 times already. He, btw, is very unhappy about team transactions or lack thereof. However, his .218 batting average may speak to a missing tool or two. We are, of course, referring to the classic baseball jargon 5 tool package of hitting for average, hitting for power, baserunning skills, throwing ability, and fielding ability.
Ryoma Heida of the Victoria Vikings is second in homers with 13. However, Heida puts it together very nicely with .285/.364/.508 with 5 stolen bags in 8 attempts. 0 Assists and 4 errors for LF, so far.
The Westside Road Warriors have the most prolific stolen base artist in Lance "Speed Trap" Hartman. He's stolen 24 in 29 attempts which is not bad considering the scant .264 OBP. But the kid is just 17, if you know what I mean, and demonstrates top notch speed and instincts on the base paths. The middle infielder is a pull hitter and has gone deep 7 times.
Dwayne Sparks of Bethesda leads all the players in total bases with 15 doubles and 12 homers to go with his .285 BA. The 25 year old is from Martinez, CA.. bats left and has a 44/67 BB/K ratio.
Certainly there are more budding stars and we'll be tracking them as we move further into the season. If you have a particular player you'd like covered, let me know!
Nice job. If u want SP Pablo Costa for the Palm Beach Bums is playing well in A, his not the best but very good and he is only 17yro.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure that Clark Ladner is glad that he is only missing a baseball tool.
ReplyDeleteHartman will steal 75 bags if he develops as I hope.
ReplyDeleteWatch out for Colby Hoffman- Kingwood - CL He is having a great year in A ball. John Powers CF needs some more at bats he is very hot right now!
