Congratulations to Indiana State Sycamores!

The Indiana State Sycamores won the ABL College World Series, defeating California in seven games 4-3! The results of the games were: 7-4 Indiana State, 9-4 California, 10-2 Indiana State, 5-0 Indiana State, 10-9 California, 13-0 California, and 6-1Indiana State in game seven!

Derreck Flynn

Derrek Flynn, shortstop for Indiana State, was the College World Series MVP. He hit four home runs and had eight RBI while batting .296.

Ramon Vazquez started off the season in College Station very hot.  He won 4 of his first 5 starts but, then hit a dry spell losing 3 of his next 4.  Meanwhile, the Baseball News OSA scouting organization still rank him as the #1 Pitcher in the NCAA.

"He is a very hard worker and studies the game like no other kid we have seen", said his pitching coach.  Featuring three nasty pitches and keeping the ball low in the strike zone it will be interesting to see how far his ceiling will be.  Some of scouts have him pegged to be a future HOF in the ABL.

Another player born on the 29th day of the month but, this time June!

Brooks Petersen is the top rated batter in the NCAA according to the Baseball News OSA scouts.

At first glance, any scout cannot ignore his ability to make contact with a great eye.  He is blazing fast on the base paths, however; his defense is still developing we hope.

He may just end up being your A-Typical CF/lead off batter one day in the ABL with some pop to hit 10-20 home runs in a year.

Ironically he has the same birthday as the Commissioner, July 29th - just not born in the same year :-)

 

GO Beavers or GO home!

The Oregon State Beavers who lost in last years NCAA College World Series finally got it right this year by taking down the Florida State Seminoles 4-0 in a clean sweep for the title!

After scoring 35 runs in 4 games, there really was no single player on the offense side that stood out as everyone contributed from 1 to 9 in the lineup.  However in these high scoring contests, it was the stopper that got the job down 3 out of 3 and for that reason he was named the NCAA College World Series MVP!  Congratulations to Jose Delgado - CL for the Oregon State Beavers.

We are finally champions!

Jose's statistic lines for the 3 games were not stellar but, all that matters is he shut the door when needed to get the key saves in 3 of the 4 wins for the Beavers.

Congratulations to the Virginia Cavaliers for winning the NCAA College World Series 4-1 in games over the heavy favorites from Oregon State.

Scotty went 12 for 20, 6 runs scored, 6 rbi, 2 walks and 2 SB and in the only loss vs. Oregon State he managed to have his biggest day with a 5 for 6 effort and 3 runs scored, 1 rbi and 1 stolen base.

I like throwing JUNK!

Ramon Vazquez, starting pitcher for the Texas A&M Aggies, has always thrown junk even when playing with his childhood friends. He remembers the days of "Wall Ball" where they would chalk up a school wall and play a little baseball with a tennis ball. "Back then we had a batter, a pitcher and an OF and we would rotate turns at each," said Vazquez. "I used to throw off-speed pitches and breaking balls all day and they just couldn't pick up on the ball and break. " He does admit that throwing a tennis ball is a bit different than using a hard ball. The NCAA year is over and his stats are simply amazing:

This Bulldog is No James Bond But ...

I'd like to stay in the West!

Center Fielder Roosevelt "Sharky" Bond, #14 for the Fresno State Bulldogs, admits to being a big James Bond fan. His favorite movie is in fact For Your Eyes Only. Who can forget that song by Sheena Easton! Sharky was a nickname he was given in high school for his passion and love for poker. This card shark is talented off and on the field. He might be the most complete NCAA College player we'll ever see in the ABL. Roosevelt is very close to his grandparents and for that reason he would love to stay and play out west in the ABL. "My grandparents like to get out and see the games so playing out west would make it easier for them to see me play live," said Sharky. His final stats this year in the NCAA were extremely impressive:

NCAA Update: What Did I Do to You?

Alberto Reyes of the University of Michigan leads the NCAA in "hit by pitch". Roberto has been pegged 7 times in 116 ABs. When asked why he thought he was being hit so much he replied, "I believe my batting stance has something to do with it!" Alberto is majoring in biology in Michigan. He plans to go back to his home in the Dominican to work in the Fisheries Department within the Government if he doesn't get drafted in the ABL. His YTD stats are below:
