No Hits for You!

Malcom McKinney
On May the 24th, 2012 it was the Rock River Rats playing host to the New York Ninjas, and the 3,565 fans were treated to a No-Hitter.

The Jersey Jesters 70th Rd Pick, Malcom McKinney did so on just 107 pitches, 73 of which were strikes.

On the season in 11 games, McKinney has started 9 and currently has a 1.43 era, in 69 innings allowing 42 hits, a homer—and walking 17 while striking out 55. His WHIP is 0.86.

Drafted as an afterthought, McKinney plays in the system of a team whose currently 10th in SP ERA and has injuries to boot. With the team currently sitting at 29-41 (.414) one wonders if the team would give the 26-year old lefty from Alabama a shot on the big league team.

"It wouldn't hurt," cited ABL GM Mike Brouillette after looking through McKinney's makeup, "Our scout has him at 9/7/13, a 1.5* in our book; though fully developed with four pitches. Three of which grade out at least average. I'd say it's worth a look. Don't quote me on this, but if he's still hovering in the minors come late-July, we may call up Jersey and see if we can do something. We like good young pitchers in So Cal."

McKinney is on a MLC and has 3 option years remaining, indicating the franchise may be letting the lefty develop a tad more before pulling his card.

Either way, McKinney will certainly see the bigs at some points. ... With Jersey? Only he knows.

    1. Holy Cow, you're right! There were two no-hitters on June 10th in Single-A ball, and then another on June 15th. Something in the water?
