LDS - Dallas at Minnesota

The Roberto Clemente
Division Series
2012
Six Reasons why the Dallas Texans can win the series

The Argument
Six Reasons why the Dallas Texans will win the series:

Alex Martin RP
  • Superior patience at the plate.  They don't strike out as much (1021 vs. 1155)
  • They are faster on the base paths.   61 steals vs. 8!
  • Texan pitchers will not yield as many hits (1411 vs 1546), or a little less than 1 per game
  • Texan pitchers have better control (516 vs 564) BB.
  • Reliever Alex Martin can't be touched!  Averaging 13.05 K's in the last 20 IP.
  • Rich Bussell won 20 games with a 1.86 ERA

The Counter Argument
10 Reasons why the Minnesota Berserkers can win the series:

Peter Blanchard
  • They will simply outhit the Texans (.302 BA vs .284)
  • Berserker bats will bash more home runs (255 vs 163)
  • Berserker base runners will find a way to get on base more often (610 BB vs. 521)
  • Minnesota has an offensive machine compared to Dallas (1071 vs 822) or roughly 1.5 more runs scored per game.
  •  Peter Blanchard  crushed 40 Homers during the regular season
  • Berzerkers got the D.  They can turn the DP and Dallas can't (152 vs. 107)
  • Bryan Gardner
  • The Berserkers had the edge in the regular season winning 4 of 7.
  • Bryan Gardner is on a 15 game terror with 7 HR's and a 1.277 OPS
  • Roderick Gray is on a 5 game red hot streak with 4 HR's and a 1.545 OPS
  • They proved it over the long haul that they were the best in the RCL with 101 wins vs 89.

ABL fans can make their own call on the series.  Are the 6 reasons strong enough to counter the 10?  Sometimes they are.

  1. Excellent write-up Steve. You've actually got me a bit scared of Dallas. This is an interesting match-up as Dallas was the one team of the four RCL to get into the playoffs due to their pitching.

Their hitting numbers ranked in the middle of league in most categories, so this in some ways becomes the classic hitting vs. pitching duel, though that would have been a little more appropriate if it were Seattle vs. Dallas as their rankings are almost perfectly flip-flopped. I do like to think my team is solid all-around as they didn't rank #1 in anything except fewest HR given up but were #2 + #3 in almost all hitting and pitching categories.

Definitely an interesting series. Oh, and the fact that you noted steals cracked me up. I didn't know if anyone else noted them, but it shows how they just aren't all that necessary to score runs and how incredibly slow my team is.
