GM Michael Carroll said it was
time for a shake up, "It's not a rebuild as much as it is a restructure. I
didn't like the way Dallas was playing ball. I'm a guy who believes in elite
defensive players and good pitching. The difference between hitting .250 and
.300 is only about 1 hit per week. A good defensive player can take away more
than 1 hit per week from the opposing team".
Carroll is obviously committed
to defense, as he dealt away one of his greatest assets in 2B Jesse Clark.
"Clark is the kind of hitter we like. Good contact, rarely strikes out,
and moves around the bases pretty darn good. However, we felt like we could be
more competitive if we were able to shore up a couple of spots with better
pitching, defense, and get a prospect as well", said Carroll. The trade is
as follows:
Maple Gets:
2B Jesse Clark - Will
go strait into the starting line up for Maple
Dallas Gets:
MR Dan Wilder - A really good Lefty in the pen.
Dallas was hurting for another left handed pitcher, and Wilder will fill that
role immediately.
2B Jaques Carpentier - One of the best defensive 2B's
in the game. He can play every infield position with confidence. He's not
getting much playing time in Maple, and will get to start at either 2B or SS in
Dallas.
2B/SS Dave Yeadon (AA) -
Outstanding defense and solid contact, Yeadon shows all the intangibles to make
it in a Carroll run organization.
Expect to see more moves to improve team defense here
shortly. The Texans are currently discussing a call up of AAA 2B Pedro Ornelas,
who hit .324 in limited duty last season in the majors and carried a +1.9 AR
right at the 2B spot.
