Divisional Series: Boston vs. Maple, Game Four

October 5: Maple 4, Boston 1. As in game three, the Cardinals tease their fans with hope, tying the game in the ninth before losing in extra innings.

Vic Jennings
The early innings see base runners aplenty but no scoring as each team wastes numerous opportunities.

Maple breaks through in the fifth when Vic Jennings lines a solo home run to right-center. The homer is the only run allowed by Norm Jackson: he goes seven inning and strikes out eight.

Jesse George and the Marauder bullpen nearly make that one run stand up. George pitches 6 1/3 shutout innings, striking out six while walking none.

With two outs in the bottom of the ninth and the Cardinals season on the line, Javier Ramón crushes a 418-foot home run to center.

Cale Hines
Boston's excitement is short-lived. In the top of the 10th, Frank Powers and Don Strickland single, and Cale Hines hits a three-run home run.

Brandon Wilson retires Boston in order in the 10th.

Maple sweeps the series and goes on to the Thurmon Munson League Championship Series for the first time.

Maple wins the series, 4-0.
