Game 6
In the end it was a series that was won on the road. No surprise as the home team could win but one of six. The upstart Hornets picked apart SP Stephen Lawrence and his predecessors while rolling up a 7-0 lead. Catcher Ronnie Wells bat came alive as he homered, tripled, and doubled accounting for 3 rbi's while also scoring two runs. Meanwhile, Anthony "Pong" Atkinson was in complete control until the 7th when the Toreros made their final charge. They scored 4 runs but it was too little, too late as Dorsey and Austin needed just 20 pitches to secure the final four outs. Down goes the best team in the League and the #1 offense. The Hornets, and their #2 offense, move on to the Championship Series!
Game 5
The Toreros did what they had to do. They won. Down 2-0 after 1 inning they put up 3 spots in the second and third and never looked back. The bottom of the order knocked in all 7 runs in the 7-3 victory in front of 49,588 fans most of who went home disappointed. SP Wilfred Brooks bounced back from his earlier loss to give Cabo San Lucas 8 innings of ball allowing just the 3 runs. For the Hornets Royce Butterfield couldn't survive the 3rd inning as he gave up 6 earned runs on 5 hits and a walk. Dan Smith is batting .524 for Cabo San Lucas while Gary McLernon is hitting .526. The two clubs travel back Cabo San Lucas to finish this spirited series.
Game 4
Whoa....what happened? Here's what happened, Mike Miller pitched a CG giving up 2 runs, McLernon hit his 2nd homer of the series and batted in 4 runs, Eduardo Gomez scored 3 runs and all told the Hornet offense put up 12 runs on 17 hits and when the dust settled Eureka had an easy...easy 12-2 win and now command a stranglehold on the series as they are up three games to one.
Game 3
No contest. The Toreros Charles Luce took the team on his back and shut down the Hornet offense. His line, 9 IP, 2 hits, 2 BB, 0 runs, CG. Eight of the nine Toreros batters had hits with Dan Smith leading the way with 3 including a triple and a double. Paul Green took the loss but was solid as he yielded 2 runs in 7 IP. Final was 6-0.
GAME 2
When Anthony Atkinson let go of a 2-2 pitch in the bottom of the 6th it was Dan Smith who connected with a 342 ft. solo jack tying the game at 2 apiece. Later on in the same half inning it was Victor Ramirez blasting a 3-2 offering just far enough to clear the fence as the ball traveled 322 ft. Toreros up 3-2. But, the unraveling for Cabo San Lucas came in the fateful 8th inning as Orlando Carranzo lined a ball over the fence to tie it. Walks to Mike Bergeron and Michael Brown set up a 2 run double by Tonito Almonte that was preceded by a run scoring single by Gary McLernon. Toss in a wild pitch and you have the makings of a 5 run outburst that put the Hornets up 7-3, and that's the way this one ended. Hornet fans are buzzing as they head home with a 2-0 series lead! Meanwhile, the Cabo San Lucas Manager is scratching his head regarding the recent turn of events. Manager Jerry Miller was quoted after the game, "I guarantee you this thing ain't over." 49,799 were in attendance.
GAME 1
Eduardo Gómez homered and drove in three runs as the Hornets up-ended the Toreros by a score of 7-5. Gary McLernon also took a trip downtown for the Hornets on his way to a 3 hit day. Butterfield gets the win and Brooks the loss. In all the Hornets out hit the Toreros 13 to 11. Each team smacked a pair of dingers but it wasn't all power. The speedy Hornets swiped 5 bases while Cabo San Lucas failed in its only attempt at a stolen base.
Royce Butterfield gets the win and Wilfred Brooks the loss as each starter lasted 6.1 innings. 49,556 attended this first game of the series.
