ABL Tid-Bits...

On May 21, the Seattle Sasquatch reached the 500-win milestone: they were the first team to reach this milestone. On May 22, Cabo San Lucas became the second team to reach the 500-win plateau.

Seattle rookie first baseman and designated hitter Kiichi Amano leads all of baseball with 20 home runs. He leads the league in slugging, .696, and is third in OPS, 1.091.

Nottinghamshire has a team on-base percentage of .404. It's worth noting that only 47 players in major league history have a career on-base percentage north of .404. It's surprisingly difficult to find a ranking of best team on-base percentage in baseball history, but if one blogger is to believed, there have only been two teams in history that cracked the .400 on-base percentage level, the 1894 Phillies and the Orioles. Of course, 1894 was one of those crazy-offense years like 1930 or 1987. The pitching rubber had, in 1893, been pushed back to 60-feet-6-inches, and the game had not fully adapted to this change. Hugh Duffy of Boston set the all-time batting average record of .440, and the Phillies entire outfield batted over .400. Anyway, Nottinghamshire's on-base percentage is ridiculous.

On May 24, San Francisco's Sergio Esquivel hit a two-run home run, a three-run home run, and a bases loaded triple. He drove in nine runs, scored four, and even stole a base.

TRADE OF THE YEAR!

Montreal 12/17/2013

In a recent visit in Montreal, Montreal GM approach Las Vegas GM and inquire about Maurice Gould availability.  I was a secret for no one, that Las Vegas was going nowhere this season.  The three game swept in Montreal might have convince Las Vegas GM that maybe it was the time to rebuilt their home.

Meanwhile, in Montreal, we missed the playoff for the first time last year, and it was important to put a winning team in Town.  After our first 2 titles, our band rivalry "THE OUTLAWS", steal the last three titles.  This is when I said that somebody need to step up to stop them, or at least try, because they've got a fine-tune baseball machine.

So it starts in the off-season in Montreal, with the acquisition of Johnny "sweetness" Tiller, who after an unsuccessful try as a starter, didn't give a point and only 1 hit in his last 8 appearance on the mount as a closer, where he belongs, I guess.

The Bandits also acquired 38 years old, Georges Sanders, who is hitting .331 with an OPS of .958 and 5.5 WAR, as well as 43 years old, MR Del Hubble who is posting an 5.54 era in Montreal

Meanwhile, several young kids made it to the big league in the last 2 years, Lou Latulippe, Doug Walsh, Ramon Castoneda, Alvin Baldwin, Valentin Alvarado, Thomas Gonzalez, and Kinnosuke Sato....

However, since the departure of Raul Perez, we were missing a true ACE, and we felt that this year, we had a small chance to bug the champion.  We know we have an offense to compete against the Outlaws, we definitively address our bullpen issues with the arrival Tiller, Hubble and the development of Castoneda and Perez, even thought it is now 11th in the league, moving back Tiller at the Closer and with Barrett coming up, this is a clear upgrade.  Finally our starters are rank 6th in the RCL, it could just improve now with Gould in Montreal.

As expected, the cost to acquire the Gouldenboy was high.  We hate to let Latulippe go.  He's a future premium SP starter and will become very good.  Same thing with Masaki Baba, this guy is a very good hitter.  Finally Alvarado was very promising.  However, we have draft several SP in the last few years, Jesus Feliciano and Bruce Lowe (13th prospect overall in the league) will assure the SP future in the big league.  Baba will be missed, but some kids are just waiting for some playing time (Davis and Allen), and we still have an all-stars outfield with Chris Collins, Tim Raines and Li-Chi Au.  With the arrival of Georges Sanders, he is replacing Baba at the DH position, and we have few infielders ready to go at the 2B position (Pennington, Trujillo and Kountoudaras)

We send away a lot of our future, for a chance to compete now, I think in the next 2 or 3 years, this transaction will be ok, however, in few years from now we might regret it.  However, believe me our fan our estactic about the acquisition of Maurice.  Maurice is a popular name in Montreal, one that bring a lot of success to the city, referring to Maurice "the Rocket" Richard.  So it was not a surprise to anyone, when GM showed up the #9 for the Gouldenboy.   When talking to the GM, Maurice said "there is one thing I have not done in the ABL is to win a Championship, and trust me I am extremely motivated, and very happy to be here, we were going nowhere with the Jokers this season, and I think it was the right move for everybody.

Also don't forget Rich Barrett, we like what this guy can bring to the table in the bullpen or as a starter

Will this move be enough to shake the Outlaws powerhouse...who also recently send away some of their future to acquire Bussell.  Only time will tell, however, if they are getting better, while ranking 1st in this division, it is not by watching them kill everybody that we will beat them.  So we have decide to move and try.

As you imagine the biggest deal in the ABL history made a splash in the league.  We will see if it will have some effects on other teams.

Cy Young winner to the Outlaws

Nottinghamshire (TIMES) - 1 May 2017.  Nottinghamshire skipper the Ol' Gaffer has announced that the Outlaws have acquired the services of former Cy Young winner Rich Bussell from the Maple Marauders in exchange for 3-time gold glove, 2-time all-star, midfielder Danny Burris, Rule V acquisition C Billy Bishop and minor league RF Martin Petersen.

Sir William was quoted as saying "We hate to trade Danny who was a fan favorite and a key member of the squad.  However, we are confident in Brendan's (Davis) to contribute at a high level both defensively and offensively.  We felt he needed a regular opportunity with the first team.  Obviously, the opportunity to acquire a Cy Young caliber pitcher was something the club felt was too good to pass up.  Our rotation has struggled a bit and Rich will certainly add to the group's overall strength."

Rumors of further deals continue to persist at Trent Bridge, but for the moment, this deal looks to significantly strengthen the defending champs in the coming campaign.

Big Ticket heading to Canada...

GM Michael Carroll said it was time for a shake up, "It's not a rebuild as much as it is a restructure. I didn't like the way Dallas was playing ball. I'm a guy who believes in elite defensive players and good pitching. The difference between hitting .250 and .300 is only about 1 hit per week. A good defensive player can take away more than 1 hit per week from the opposing team".
Carroll is obviously committed to defense, as he dealt away one of his greatest assets in 2B Jesse Clark. "Clark is the kind of hitter we like. Good contact, rarely strikes out, and moves around the bases pretty darn good. However, we felt like we could be more competitive if we were able to shore up a couple of spots with better pitching, defense, and get a prospect as well", said Carroll. The trade is as follows:
Maple Gets:
2B Jesse Clark - Will go strait into the starting line up for Maple
Dallas Gets:
MR Dan Wilder - A really good Lefty in the pen. Dallas was hurting for another left handed pitcher, and Wilder will fill that role immediately.
2B Jaques Carpentier - One of the best defensive 2B's in the game. He can play every infield position with confidence. He's not getting much playing time in Maple, and will get to start at either 2B or SS in Dallas.
2B/SS Dave Yeadon (AA) - Outstanding defense and solid contact, Yeadon shows all the intangibles to make it in a Carroll run organization.
Expect to see more moves to improve team defense here shortly. The Texans are currently discussing a call up of AAA 2B Pedro Ornelas, who hit .324 in limited duty last season in the majors and carried a +1.9 AR right at the 2B spot.

Big Ticket on the move??

Jesse Clark has had a nickname for some time in the Dallas locker room, but now it's made it out to the fans. With Clark leading all Texans in Jersey and memorabilia sales (just ahead of Tom Owens), his team regularly refers to him as "The Big Ticket". During a Friday presser, CF German Ramos accidentally let the moniker slip when talking about returning players and up and coming youngsters. He was asked about players he'd like to stick around long term, "Well, when you talk about young guys to build around, you need to be talking about Tommy, Nelson, Rivera, and of course The Big Ticket".
The nickname stuck with fans and now talk radio has used on a regular basis.

Looking to upgrade at defense, the Texans are shopping 2B Jesse Clark. "It's going to take a solid contact hitter with elite defense in order to get Clark", says GM Michael Carroll. "Right now we are playing it by ear, but I'm not going to trade away Clark for anything less than a Gold Glove caliber player".
