Undercover Blonde - Update

NOTTINGHAMSHIRE (Times) - It would appear that the flurry of activity at Trent Bridge has resulted in at least 1 deal.  I have just received the following tweet from Bristol City's Malcomb Smith's agent.

"Malcomb deeply regrets leaving the Smuggler Supporters, but an opportunity to play in the ABL and in a warmer climate was too good to paas up"

Not a lot of clarity there as all ABL cities are warmer than Bristol City.

Undercover Blonde

NOTTINGHAMSHIRE (Times) - The Astroturf Blonde reports that while the squad has been away on their matches, there has been a lot of activity in the Outlaw headquarters at Trent Bridge.  An anonymous source close to the discussions indicated that several clubs have been in conversation with Outlaw executives concerning different prospects within the organization.  While there has been no official communication, this same souce felt that some type of deal or deals was imminent.

There were rumors earlier in the week that Nottinghamshire was in discussions with the new Georgia ownership, however it was felt that nothing had come from those discussions.  Still there have been stories published in the Georgia Peach that several deals have been completed although no details have been announced.

One name that has been consistent in the rumors is that of phenom pitcher Noberto Rocha, acquired by the Outlaws in the off season.  However, neither Rocha or his agent have commented nor have they returned our calls.

We will provide further information as and when it becomes available.

Around the ABL: April 8-April 14

Sergio Ramírez
April 8: South Carolina 4, Las Vegas 0. In a battle of the brains, Sergio Ramírez (1-1) outsmarts the Jokers offense and beats Professor Magee (1-1). Ramírez pitches eight scoreless innings. Orlando Bustamante and Gunner Smart for the Palmettos. Magee reportedly defeats Ramírez in a chess match held behind closed doors after the game.

April 8: San Francisco 7, Mile High 10. The Earthquakes—the best team in baseball for much of last summer—are shades of their former selves. They take an early lead, 5-0, but cough it up in the late innings. Mustang Francisco Morales wins it for Mile High by tripling down the right-field line with the bases loaded.

Around the ABL: April 1-April 7

April 1: Montreal 3, So Cal 4. The defending champs begin the 2013 campaign by losing to the defending chumps. Lloyd Bray wins it for the Republic. Down 3-2 in the eighth, Bray hits solo home run. With the bases loaded and two outs in the ninth, Bray draws a walk-off walk.

Roberto
Mendoza
April 1: Mile High 10, Jacksonville 0. The fifth batter of the game, Roberto Mendoza hits a grand slam. The Mustangs score eight runs in the first inning. That would prove more than enough for Manuel Ruíz. The Iron Man (Iron Manuel?) pitches a complete game shutout. Mile High general management look like geniuses: Mendoza is a free-agent aquisition, and Ruíz was just signed to a seven-year contract extension.

April 1: Jersey 3, Cabo San Lucas 4. Toreros Dan Smith and Miguel Torres hit solo home runs. Jersey comes back. With two outs in the ninth, new Jester center fielder Gary Hunter doubles and Hunter Wine singles him in, tying the game, 3-3. The game remains tense. In extra innings, each team strands runners in scoring position on multiple occasions. In the bottom of the 12th, Dave Carlisle triples and Dan Smith hits a sac fly, giving the Bullfighters a walk-off opening day victory.

Movin' on Up

In my last article, I presented a quick look at the concept of Major League Equivalencies as a method to determine how a player's performance might translate from AAA to the ABL. Tonight I'll be shifting down one level to look at players moving from AA to AAA.

Munson League Wild-Card Series

Maple vs. Boston

October 2: Maple 8, Boston 9. Complete coverage here. Boston leads the series, 1-0.

October 3: Maple 5, Boston 4. Over 92 1/3 innings this season, R.J. Lukies allowed only 10 earned runs and four home runs. After giving up a two-run homer in game one, he gives up a pair of two-run homers in the seventh inning of game two. Jorge Rodríguez and Anthony Shelton deliver the blasts. Boston nearly comes back. Dave Lane hits a two-run homer in the eighth, and the Cardinals score another in the ninth, but John Everhart ends the game by grounding out with the tying run on third base. Series tied, 1-1.
